Upgrades to Fire & Life Safety
Excel Life
Made major upgrades to our Fire and Life Safety for student houses, all of campus, and disaster relief basecamp.
Improvements include:
- Staying in compliance with all of the constantly changing requirements of the county
- Running fire drills Monthly life safety inspections
- Cooking and kitchen safety classes Increased campus security policy Increased smoke monitoring
- Consistent management and oversight of life safety procedures, keeping it always top of mind

Intentional Focus on Leadership Growth

We've dedicated focus to strengthening and building up our leadership team.
- Launched our internal leadership Master's program
- Intentionally gathered and spent time together as a strategic team
- Continued educational growth and initiatives for our tactical team

Major Progress in Disaster Relief
Excel Life
Disaster relief efforts are still going strong with the Better Together Coalition, and we continue to make incredible progress for those affected in our region.
- Hosted 2484 Volunteers who have served a total of 134,136 hours, estimated by FEMA to have provided $4,427,900 in volunteer labor that can be monetarily gifted to the town and county
- Worked with the Better Together Coalition to complete 75% of the work scopes originally set to be completed, and are now actively pursuing many more projects
- Hosted three very large events for the local community:
- The Christmas Market which served over 800 families
- The Fall Financial-Help Fair to educate and empower disaster victims
- The Helene remembrance dinner for the one-year anniversary
- The Christmas Market which served over 800 families
- Provided supplies and logistics support for other organizations' events (such as Thanksgiving food drives, the Valley Hope Church Fall Winter Resource Fair, various Back to school drives, and various other Christmas events)
- Employed multiple students, staff, and community members to work in disaster relief to serve the community in the rebuild effort
- Completed site planning and setup of our disaster relief basecamp, allowing the coalition to begin operating out of it, consistently serving 10+ organizations
- The Coalition worked with and served over 30 different organizations in the local area, while sending supplies to the relief efforts for the Texas floods and hurricane in Jamaica
- Received hundreds of trucks of donations (tens of millions of dollars of materials) to assist in the rebuilding of hundreds of homes and a number of small businesses and churches, including:
- The Marquee
- Foundation Woodworks
- More small businesses in the River Arts District
- Helped with rebuild efforts for over well 500 homeowners

Getting Involved in the Community
Excel Academy
Our Academy students have become increasingly involved in and recognized in the local community.
- Many of our art students’ pieces were displayed at the local Red House Gallery during their Young Artists Exhibition
- Organized the annual Luminary event for the town of Black Mountain
- Choreographed and performed a Hip Hop and Ballet dance at Black Mountain Holly Jolly
- Held our annual Academy Thanksgiving party at Camp Timberlake
- Hosted another highly anticipated annual Fall Party where college students wait at their homes with candy for the academy kids in costumes to come by for a safe, family friendly “Candy parade”, ending with games and a bonfire
- Volunteered at the annual Black Mountain Home for Children Fall Festiva

Focus on Family Enrichment
Excel Academy
We've intentionally focused on family enrichment within our Academy community.
- Hosted a Father/Son Airsoft Battle and pizza party and a Mother/Daughter Tea Party
- Hosted a vow renewal celebration for one of our precious families in the tent
- Held our first Parent Enrichment Night where parents dropped off their children for pizza and fun at the Centre and were then hosted for dinner, fellowship, and an introduction to the Seven Primal Questions at College Street

A New and Improved Academy
Excel Academy
We launched a new and improved academic program within the Academy, including lots of fun field trips for ur students.
- Launched a new and improved two morning a week academic program where parents and children gather and learn through top curriculums and parents gather weekly for bible study and enrichment
- Expanded our AHA! Program to two afternoons a week, offering opportunities to young teens to co-lead a class with their parent
- Hosted our first entrepreneur camp where students raised money to kick off the school year by selling root beer floats at both the Center and Basecamp
- Our students and families went to the Biltmore to interact with history at the King Tut exhibit
- Hosted a Junior High Science Fair which served as the Junior High Capstone project
